Recent travel trends show a higher number of Americans visiting our northern neighbors in Canada since 2007.
According to Statistics Canada, 12.3 million US residents traveled to Canada in the first half of 2019, making it the highest first-half record in 12 years. The Great White North appears to be welcoming US visitors this year at a near-record rate.
For many northern US residents in bordering states, Canada is just a road trip away. Bostonians only have a 5-hour drive to Montreal, while residents of Washington can take a 3-hour ferry ride to Vancouver and enjoy the sights of British Columbia. Others take advantage of direct flights to Drake’s hometown of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, the country’s biggest cities.
With the U.S. dollar doing very well in Canada, it also points to a strong reason behind the increase in travel. According to Jen Allford, a Canadian freelance travel writer, “Canada is awesome.”
“We have anything and everything — rugged remote, downtown urban, food, great wine, super skiing, world class kayaking — whatever turns you on, we have it in spades.” she adds.
