Former NBA player Dwyane Wade doesn’t play when it comes to his family, especially his children. Wade clap backed at internet trolls over the weekend who criticized a family photo he shared with his 12-year-old son.
The NBA champion’s wife, Gabrielle Union, recently posted a Thanksgiving family photo that included the happily married couple standing with their baby girl Kaavia James and his son Zion. But, it was the mid-riff shirt and fake nails that Zion was wearing that had everyone talking.
“Smh wtf this lil boy got nails on for?” one person wrote, according to Complex. “I’ve lost all respect for D Wade…”
“Why does his son have his nails done and dressed like a girl?” another person reportedly commented.
But Wade wasn’t having it. He hopped in his wife’s comments and responded to the close-minded haters.
“As a parent my only goal is that my kids feel that i see them, love them and support them,” Wade wrote. “I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!”
It was last year in October when Gabrielle Union responded to criticism over their son’s sexuality. At the time, Wade posted a photo of Union, their daughter, Kaavia, and Zion with the caption that read, “My girls,”, which garnered a negative responded from some people.
“Looks like love to me,” the actress wrote in her post. “I truly hope that everyone gets the love, support and hugs they deserve. Also Kaav ain’t with the dumb shit. Peace & Blessings good people.”
Nice to see a star athlete like Wade sticking by his son. Very reminiscent of Magic Johnson and his support for his son EJ Johnson. We need more Black family love like this.
