A detective with the NYPD has been arrested for molesting a 12-year-old girl.
37-year-old Juan Jimenez worked as an NYPD detective who monitored city sex offenders. However, he should have been monitored himself after he was placed behind bars for molesting a 12-year-old girl, police said Saturday.
Jimenez was arrested at 7 p.m. Friday after he was accused of sexually abusing the child, his daughter’s friend, cops said. The incident allegedly occurred over the summer while Jiminez was babysitting his daughter and her friend inside of his Brooklyn home. The detective allegedly groped and tried to kiss the young girl.
The victim reported it to police and an investigation was launched, authorities said. Court papers accuse Jimenez of grabbing the child by the waist and “attempted to kiss (the victim) about the mouth,”. He also grabbed the girl’s behind, prosecutors said.
The 13-year NYPD veteran has since been charged with two counts of sex abuse, forcible touching and acting in a manner injurious to a child, police said. A Brooklyn Criminal Court judge ordered Jimenez released without bail on Friday night.
Within the NYPD he was assigned to the Sex Offender Monitoring Unit in Manhattan Criminal Court, where sex offenders living in the city are supposed to register after being released. He has since been suspended following his arrest.
