Hip hop queens Roxanne Shante and Mary J. Blige served black queen magic in Rapsody’s new music video for “Ibtihaj”.
The Grammy-nominated emcee released the visuals for her new single “Ibtihaj”, a song she recorded in tribute to Ibtihaj Muhammad — the U.S. Olympic medalist who made history as the first Muslim-American woman to wear a hijab during the competition. The song and video are dripping in hip hop history with guest features by D’Angelo and Wu-Tang’s own GZA and the video being directed by Misa Hylton and recorded in Harlem, NYC.
Though D’Angelo doesn’t appear in the video, GZA does, alongside Roxanne Shanté and Mary J. Blige. Beautiful black queens can be seen in the streets of Harlem looking stunning while wearing their hijabs.
“Ibtihaj” appears on Rapsody’s forthcoming project Eve, which she described to Essence as “my ode to the women in my life and… the village of Black women.”
