Lagos, Nigeria
Lagos is the most populous city in Nigeria and on the African continent. But it’s location along the coast of Nigeria makes Lagos especially prone to flooding and erosion. As global warming keeps sea levels rising, Lagos becomes more at risk of sinking. A 2012 study revealed that, since Nigeria’s coastline is so low, a sea level rise of just 3 to 9 feet “will have a catastrophic effect on the human activities in these regions.” A more recent study released this year found that global sea levels could rise more than 6 feet (2 meters) by the end of this century. Which puts Lagos at risk of being non-existent in a few more decades.
