J. Cole is known for living an extremely private life. So it took a recent letter he wrote to get him to confirm that he’s a father of two boys.
The “Middle Child” rapper has been quiet about his marriage and fatherhood. But in a 3500-word letter for The Players’ Tribune, titled “The Audacity,” Cole reflected back on his life and the period between his 2016 album 4 Your Eyez Only and the present day.
“Four years have passed. In that time I’ve been blessed with two sons, learned the delicate art of balance between parenthood and career, had the pleasure of working with a ton of talented artists as a featured rapper, spent 10 magical days recording a Dreamville album in Atlanta, and put a lot of time and energy into sharpening my sword and growing as an artist,” Cole wrote in his lengthy letter.
Cole also opens up about his story from childhood to signing his first record deal at the age of 24. He even reveals his dreams of joining the NBA even after he signed to Jay Z back in 2009.
He also touched on his style of music and not being a “punchline” rapper.
“But now, at 31, I became an artist who barely cared for punchlines, wittiness, or for the standard measurements of what determines a rapper’s fitness. I was much more concerned with story, emotion, and message.”
We’ll see when Cole will give his fans a glimpse of growing family.
