A California man who legally changed his name to Sexy Vegan has been accused of sexually assaulting his pet dog.
37-year-old Sexy Vegan — born Hansel Marion DeBartolo III — was arrested in West Hollywood on Thursday over a video he posted on social media that showed “inappropriate behavior” with a pit bull, prosecutors said.
“Detectives found a video on social media of the suspect performing an act of bestiality,” Shirley Miller of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Office told KHTS.
Following his arrest, two dogs were removed from Vegan’s home by animal-control officials, Miller said. Vegan, who has his new name tattooed on his face, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of sexual assault on an animal and posting obscene matter, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
He pleaded not guilty Friday and faces up to one year in county jail if convicted, the attorney’s office said. Vegan is due back in Santa Clarita court on Oct. 10.
The man previously made media headlines with his name change when he appeared on the “Dr. Phil” TV show in an episode titled, “My Brother Changed His Name to ‘Sexy Vegan,’ Wears Speedos in Public and is Spending My Mom’s $11 Million Inheritance!”
During his bizarre appearance on the show, Vegan moonwalked off the stage after being kicked off for using excessive profanity — with the host apologizing for his “childish and immature behavior.”
“Don’t let the door hit you in the ass,” Dr. Phil said as he booted out the moonwalking guest.
