A tragic house fire at a daycare center took the lives of 5 children ranging in ages from 8 months to 8 years old, officials say. Now, reports have surfaced that a volunteer firefighter was actually the father of three of the five children killed in the horrific fire.
Lawrence Park Township Volunteer Fire Chief Joe Crotty says Luther Jones’ two daughters and son were killed in the fire at an all-night child care center in Eerie, Pennsylvania, Black America Web reports.
The children haven’t been formally identified, and the owner was hospitalized after the fire Sunday. the Erie Fire Department says. Crotty said Jones had responded to another call for what turned out to be a malfunctioning alarm while others responded to the fire that ended up taking the lives of his children.
Erie fire officials say the children were staying overnight at the house that also conducted business as an overnight day care center. The house reportedly had just one smoke detector located in the attic.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
