Actors Idris Elba and Caleb McLaughlin are teaming up as father and son in a new cowboy-inspired film.
According to Deadline, Elba and the “Stranger Things” star are joining forces in the upcoming movie “Concrete Cowboys,”. The new film is inspired by Philadelphia’s Black horseback riding community on Fletcher Street and Greg Neri’s novel “Ghetto Cowboy,”.
Elba is set to star as Harp, the estranged father of McLaughin’s character, Cole. “Concrete Cowboys” follows Cole as he moves to live with his father in Philadelphia and gets introduced to the cowboy subculture, Deadline reports. Jharrel Jerome, the breakout Emmy-nominated star who played Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us,” has also joined the cast, along with Lorraine Toussaint and Byron Bowers.
“Concrete Cowboys” is directed by Ricky Staub, who wrote the screenplay with Dan Walser, the outlet adds. McLaughlin took to Instagram on Friday to celebrate the big news.
“All praise due to the most high,” he wrote.
