The young woman who went viral over the weekend for licking inside of a Blue Bell ice cream container and placing it back inside the freezer is on the search by police.
An investigation is under way after a disturbing food tampering video made its way on social media over the weekend. In the nine second video, an unidentified woman is seen smiling with her tongue hanging out of her mouth over an open container of Blue Bell ice cream. The person filming urges her to take a lick, which she does. The woman then quickly covers the ice cream back up and places it back on the grocery store freezer shelf.
Now, the Texas-based ice cream company “says it is working with police after the video surfaced on Twitter over the weekend,” ABC News reports.
Though it appears to be a disgusting prank, the woman could be guilty of a felony depending on which state the apparent food tampering crime took place in, News One reports.
Blue Bell has responded to a number of people on Twitter released a statement alerting customers to look out for tampered containers.
“We want to thank our consumers for alerting us to the recent food tampering incident. We take this issue very seriously and are currently working with law enforcement, retail partners and social media platforms. This type of incident will not be tolerated.
“Food safety is a top priority, and we work hard to provide a safe product and maintain the highest level of confidence from our consumers.
“During production, our half gallons are flipped upside down and sent to a hardening room where the ice cream freezes to create a natural seal. The lids are frozen tightly to the carton. Any attempt at opening the product should be noticeable.
“We will continue to monitor this situation.”
