A black woman in New York City has been arrested and charged for pepper-spraying white people in a series of alleged hate crimes.
The black transgender woman was identified as 37-year-old Thomas Heard. She reportedly carried out several attacks on white people just because of their race. Police arrested her Saturday, NY Daily News reports. Surveillance footage captured her approaching strangers on the street and pepper-spraying them.
Authorities are looking into other attacks in Manhattan they believe she might have conducted. The Bronx resident reportedly walked up to a husband and wife who were shopping Friday afternoon and kicked the 55-year-old man, pepper-sprayed him and told the couple “I f**king hate white people.”
Later on Friday, Heard reportedly assaulted a 29-year-old man on the southbound platform inside the 125 Street and Lennox Avenue ‘2’ and ‘3’ train station. She pepper-sprayed the person and ran. There were five other victims, a 47-year-old man, a 48-year-old woman, a 30-year-old woman, a 38-year-old woman
Her other attacks followed over several days where she approached another couple near her apartment on Saturday. She reportedly asked the 24-year-old woman if she was white and then sprayed the woman and pulled a knife on her boyfriend before leaving the scene.
Bronx police finally caught Heard late Saturday and arrested her on charges including assault as a hate crime, weapon possession, menacing and harassment. All of the victims from the attacks are reportedly fine and in recovery.
