Looks like R. Kelly’s luck is running thin as recent reports reveal the Pied Piper is being investigated by the FBI for illegally flying an underage girl cross-country in 2015.
Following Lifetime’s scathing “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries that debuted earlier this month, Kelly has been under fire from the public and dodging encounters with police in NYC, Atlanta, and Chicago. All eyes remain on the Grammy award-winning singer after the shocking documentary shared firsthand accounts and testimonials from women who alleged to have been victimized by the singer over the course of his career.
Despite the fierce outcry from the public to #MuteRKelly, the Pied Piper still has a loyal group of women who remain by his side. One of Kelly’s “pets” Azriel Clary, remains under his care while her parents appeared in the docuseries and shared their experience with trying to get their daughter to come home. However, it’s the fact that Azriel was just 17 in 2015 when Kellz reportedly flew her across state lines that has police investigating the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer.
According to TMZ, Azriel was flown from Palm Springs to Phoenix to Orlando on May 25, 2015. She flew US Airways, leaving Cali at 6:57 AM and eventually landed in Florida at 4:09 PM, the outlet states. A source connected to Azriel’s family says the flights were arranged by a woman who was R. Kelly’s assistant at the time.
With Azriel only being 17 at that time the flights were booked, R. Kelly is being investigated for possibly violating the Mann Act — the federal act that makes it illegal to transport a minor across state lines for purposes of sex, debauchery or prostitution.
The FBI learned about the flights within the last week, TMZ reports. This comes after it was revealed the FBI has been in contact with the family of Joycelyn Savage, another woman who appeared in “Surviving R. Kelly” and remains in Kelly’s care.
It appears the FBI is working to bring a case against Kelly. However, his team believes no crimes were committed because they have a note signed from Clary’s mother Alice that gave her permission to travel. The note is dated for Sept. 21, 2015 despite the trip being taken in May 2015. But R. Kelly’s camp is convinced the note shows her parents willingness to let Azriel travel with the Pied Piper.
