Hip hop fans might remember Eminem rap affiliate Obie Trice “real name no gimmicks”. Well, the former Shady Records artist has returned to media headlines following a domestic dispute that resulted in his girlfriend’s son being shot.
According to TMZ, Trice was arrested early Friday morning in Oakland County, Michigan on 2 charges, and currently remains behind bars. He charges include aggravated felony assault of a family member with a gun and contempt of court for violating a protective order.
A neighbor called the police after hearing loud noises and shouting coming from Trice’s home. Upon police arrival, Trice was holding a pistol and was quickly ordered to the ground and taken into custody, according to the police report.
Cops said they spoke with Trice and his live-in girlfriend who said they were having an argument when her 18-year-old son tried to get in the middle and break it up. A gun went off and her son was shot. The son then drove himself to the hospital for treatment where he remains in stable condition.
The report says Obie had allegedly been drinking all day prior to his physical altercation with his girlfriend. The girlfriend’s teenage son tried to intervene, and Obie went to grab his gun. A struggle ensued over control of the weapon and resulted in the son being shot in the groin. He suffered a fractured pelvis because of the bullet, TMZ reports.
Trice is known in hip hop for being a part of Eminem’s early success. He signed to Shady Records in 2000 and recorded songs on the “8 Mile” soundtrack, the D12 album “Devil’s Night” and appeared on Eminem’s hit “Without Me.” Trice eventually left Shady Records and started his own record label, Black Market Entertainment, in 2010.
