It took about 25 years but the truth behind Romeo of Immature‘s eye patch is finally out and it turns out the cause of his blindness is none other than R&B singer Brandy!
The 90s R&B group sat down for their first radio interview in 20 years. Nick Cannon got the exclusive on his morning radio show on KPWR in Los Angeles. Cannon recalls rising to fame around the same time as the R&B trio and got them to get candid about their personal relationships, the tensions with B2K and what it was like growing up in the industry.
However, despite all the tea the group dropped, it was Nick’s question to Romeo (born Jerome Isaac Jones) that has everyone talking. After being asked about his infamous eye patch along with the persistent rumor that Brandy was somehow responsible for it, Romeo spoke the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
“That’s a true story,” he confirmed with no pretense. “Her and [original Immature member] Half-Pint had gotten into it, she had a book in her hand and just tossed it back. Not thinking anyone was that close and cut my retina, detached it. The lens to my eye had fallen out,” Romeo recalled.
Fellow band member Marques Houston recalled walking in right after the incident and Brandy was shocked while explaining it was an accident.
“[Moesha actor] Brandon Adams caught it,” Romeo continued. “He was there with us. So, he’s standing there holding my lens. He’s not knowing what’s going on. Marc come[s] in and we were trying to hide it.”
Nick then turned the interview around to focus on Immature’s spin-off group B2K. The early 2000s R&B group has been in the blogs a lot this year after it was revealed during their come back tour that Lil Fizz was involved in a romantic relationship with Omarion‘s ex and baby mama, Apryl Jones.
Houston went on to say that while the members of Immature have a real friendship the members of B2K are just “coworkers”.
“Their dynamic is different, very different,” he concluded. “We [Immature] are actually friends, they at work, they’re coworkers.”
