Troubled hip hop businessman Damon Dash has been arrested in NYC for reportedly owing over $400,000 in unpaid child support to his two exes.
The former Roc-A-Fella CEO, who became well-known during his reign at the top of the hip hop game in the early 2000s alongside hip hop billionaire Jay Z, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. Dash was handcuffed and taken to Bronx Family Court after two felony warrants were issued for his arrest, the New York City Sheriff’s Office confirmed to the NY Post.
“We’ve been looking to arrest him since 2015,” NYC Sheriff Joseph Fucito said after the former record executive was arrested in Manhattan without incident.
One law enforcement source claimed that authorities spent four years trying to convince Dash to turn himself in after he fled New York years ago. The 49-year-old “Culture Vultures” author is accused of owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in child support to his ex-wife Rachel Roy and ex-girlfriend Cindy Morales. However, Dash claims to be broke and filed legal documents last week claiming he has no income.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the arrest warrants were issued in relation to the $404,000 in child support that Dash owes his two exes. Back in April of 2015, a Bronx family court judge issued an arrest warrant for Dash where he was ordered to pay $62,000 to Morales. Earlier this year, a Supreme Court divorce warrant was issued for Dash after he was found guilty of contempt of court and was ordered to pay $342,000 to Roy.
On Wednesday, the father of three was seen leaving the family court while holding hands with his fiancee Raquel Horn and ranting about being crucified “just like Jesus Christ”. He also claims to have already paid the child support and be in good financial standing.
“Ain’t no money problems,” the hip hop mogul said as a small crowd of fans gathered outside the court.
“I went to turn myself in with money! I already paid it! And I still walked it with cuffs,” he railed, adding: “No more warrants. Everything is clear.”
But Dash was singing a different tune last week when he appeared in Manhattan federal court and said his personal income was “virtually nonexistent” and claimed his only revenue stream was comes from the $2 million he was owed from “Empire” creator Lee Daniels.
Dash claimed to be facing additional unexpected expenses after impregnating his current fiancée, Raquel Horn. During his Manhattan filing, Dash said the money Daniels owed him hasn’t been forthcoming due to creditors garnishing his income.
“It is very difficult to address the mounting bills until I receive some relief from the courts,” he wrote.
On Wednesday, the record executive accused both his baby mamas of being gold diggers.
“They’re pieces of dog s–t because they put money before family values,” Dash said. “I’m very disappointed in Rachel in not caring about her children, relationship with her children, before bread. It’s all been about money.”
