Actress Demi Moore is letting all the skeletons out of her closet in her new memoir where she reveals the time she was raped at age 15 by a man who paid her mother $500 afterward. She also opens up the threesomes she had with ex-husband Ashton Kutcher that he allegedly used to defend the infidelity that ultimately led to their divorce.
The 56-year-old veteran actress sat down for an interview with Diane Sawyer about her new memoir, “Inside Out” where she describes her ‘colorful’ childhood that included being raped and trying to save her mother from suicide attempts. One of the most shocking revelations she made included a memory from her teenage years. It occurred after she had moved all around the country and her mother, Virginia King, began taking her to bars so that they could get attention from men.
Moore recalled how one night, she returned home to find an older man who had a key to their home. She said he raped her and then asked her, “How does it feel to be wh***d out for $500?”
“It was rape and a devastating betrayal,” Moore wrote in the book.
When asked by Sawyer if she thought her mother had pimped her out, she replied,
“I think in my deep heart, no. I don’t think it was a straight forward transaction but she still did give him the access and put me in harm’s way.”
Moore was born in New Mexico but her biological father left her mother before she was born. She was raised by her mother and her mother’s second husband, Dan Guynes, who she thought was her real father up until the age of 13 when she found her birth certificate. Her stepfather was a newspaper advertising salesman that caused the small family to move around the country quite often.
She detailed how both her mother and stepfather were alcoholics and how her mother attempted suicide many times. Moore recalls the time she tried to save her mom’s life as a young child.
‘I remember using my fingers, the small fingers of a child, to dig the pills out of her mouth,’ she wrote.
By her teenage years, her mother and Guynes separated and she and her mother moved to Hollywood where the rape happened. She moved out at the age of 16 and launched her acting career. Guynes killed himself in 1980, two years after splitting from her mother.
Moore also details her adulthood that included her relationship with actor Ashton Kutcher. She alleges that she broke her 20-year sobriety when Kutcher told her that he did not believe in alcoholism and pressured her into having threesomes. She said she agreed to do them because she wanted to seem ‘fun’ to her much-younger husband but later felt like they were a ‘mistake’. She claims he cheated on her twice and she suffered a miscarriage shortly after they began dating.
In a statement to UsWeekly earlier this month, a spokesman for Kutcher said:
‘Ashton knew what was coming. He had a heads up on what is in the book. He’s not mad or disappointed. This is Demi’s truth, and he always felt sympathetic toward her. He knows her story and that her upbringing was difficult.’
The couple divorced in 2013 after eight years together. It was the third marriage for Moore following her first marriage to Freddie Moore in 1980. They were together for five years. She then married actor Bruce Willis in 1987 and the couple welcomed three daughters before divorcing after 13 years.
Moore’s book will be released on Tuesday. It is dedicated to her daughters and to her mother.
