Turns out the actress that director Tyler Perry blasted on social media a few months back actually got the attention she wanted and was recently hired to appear in one of his productions.
According to TMZ, Perry hired the actress who took out a full billboard ad in hopes of getting the NAACP award winner’s attention. Racquel Bailey has reportedly been cast to star in Perry’s upcoming BET show, Sistas. The news comes two months after Perry took to social media to blast Bailey for buying a $2,000 billboard ad in Atlanta.
However, despite the shade, it appears the “Diary of A Mad Black Woman” creator had a change of heart and allowed Bailey to audition.
“This was my leap of faith,” Bailey told TMZ. “This was my choice. This was something I felt like I needed to do to stand out.”
“When I put up the billboard, I didn’t know what to expect,” she said. “I didn’t know what was going to happen and what one thing you have to have in this industry is thick skin and so he didn’t crush anything in me, at all. Nothing.”
Despite her drastic measures working out for her, Bailey doesn’t suggest it for other aspiring actors.
“It’s not typical its unconventional,” the actress said. “Like Tyler said, it could’ve put a bad taste in directors mouths. So I’m not advising anybody to do so, but somebody did it and it was me. “
Bailey told TMZ that she shot with Perry last week in Atlanta and is set to appear in the final episode of season one of Sistas as a police officer. She also hinted at the possibility of her starring in season two.
Since going viral with her billboard ad earlier this year, Bailey has reportedly been on 20 auditions and booked two roles, TMZ reports. She also has some upcoming auditions with “big-time directors.”
She says she is “incredibly grateful to Perry for giving her a boost.”
