Rap mogul T.I. was in Washington D.C. last week in efforts to continue the community work that was being performed by the late rapper Nipsey Hussle.
The Grammy-award-winning rapper was on Capitol Hill where he attended a meeting with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to jumpstart incentive investments in low-income communities. Nipsey was scheduled to attend the meeting prior to his death in March.
T.I. spoke with TMZ about how Nipsey invited him to the meeting and explained that he was there on the late rapper’s behalf. When confronted with the reality that he might have to work with President Trump, T.I. told reporters that it’s not about Democrats or Republicans … it’s about people.

Opportunity Zones are economically-distressed communities (basically The Hood) where new investments, under certain conditions may be eligible for preferential tax treatment. If you invest in one of these zones directly or through an opportunity fund, you get a tax break on the profits. If you hold it for 10 years, you owe no taxes. Opportunity Zone Legislation is giving us the chance to “gentrify our own hoods before these people do it.” For those of us like Me,Nip & @cthagod who are already reinvesting into our communities by buying property and redeveloping it this legislation gives us more incentive to continue to do just that. This is why Nipsey Hussle and @david.a.gross created @our.opportunity so the citizens of these opportunity zones can reap the benefits of this legislation. They reached out to me before Nip passed & invited me to join them in their efforts & come to Capital Hill to speak with the senators, congressmen & lawmakers like @senatortimscott & @corybooker who introduced the legislation, about how we can make sure these opportunities impact & revitalize the communities/zones we know need it most. I’m honored to continue the discussion and bring my brother’s dream to life. #TMC🏁 📸 @elmokebour
